Supercook.com

Has anyone else used this before? I am totally amazed. I was reading through Meghan Asha’s blog and it piqued my interest. Basically, it’s a database of recipes that the site will auto-search for you, based on the ingredients to have RIGHT NOW. To give it a spin, I entered what I have in my cupboards and refrigerator at this very moment:

-chicken breast

-chicken stock

-parsley

-tomato sauce

-pasta

-cream

-flour

-garlic

-grits

-breadcrumbs

-bread

-olive oil

-butter

-adobo sauce

-red pepper flake

I also have a bunch of vinegars and various condiments but didn’t think they’d make up for my serious lack of vegetables and proteins. I also have some frozen kobe beef but I am not messing with that. Apparently I can make 256 recipes right now! Here are some of the highlights:

-Chicken Pizzaiola (recipe care of Patsy’s restaurant - !)

-whole wheat spaghetti (or fusili, in my case) with garlic oil

-spaghettini (fusili) with sand (sand = breadcrumbs, I think I read a recipe like this in a  Norah Ephron New Yorker article)

-creamy grits

-creamy chicken

-and um, lots of garlic bread recipes.

Not bad! If I had a semi-stocked kitchen, this could be a major help for me when I’m not feeling creative. They need to make this a mobile app, STAT, because this would also be tremendously helpful for people on-the-go: when you’re at a farmer’s market or somewhere where the produce guides your cooking. Supercook.com. You all can thank me when you’re tired from work, starving, have only random crap like I do in your fridge, it’s too cold to get groceries, and you’re too poor to order takeout. De nada!
