A few weeks ago I had a week off between jobs - wohoo - and at the very last minute decided to book a trip out to California to explore wine country and visit some friends.
Like all great trips, it went by in a flash, but I did manage to take a few pictures. The first few days were spent up in Santa Barbara right on the beach. One of the places on my must-see list, aside from the vineyards we visited, was La Super Rica Taqueria, a mexican joint right in town that serves legendary tacos. Julia Child, who retired in Santa Barbara, called it her favorite.
Charlie and I split some tacos (pork, chicken and chorizo) along with some beans and a pork tamale. The tacos were great - super fresh tortillas made right on the spot - but the tamale was by far, the best, creamiest, softest pork tamale I have ever had. A great surprise since they’re my absolute favorite. With a little fresh pico de gallo on top, it was the perfect way to wrap up the trip before heading down to LA on the PCH. A do-not-miss for lunch or dinner if life ever brings you to Santa Barbara.
