B-Day Dinner!
So, the time has come for me to turn 26 and I need some help!
I’ve got a few b-day places in mind to celebrate at but I’d love any and all suggestions. I’m really starting to sweat it and I am notoriously bad with making decisions that involve other people’s enjoyment! Please help. Oh, and here are the parameters:
-I don’t REALLY want to go somewhere I’ve...

One Word
So my good friend Leah of LA ’n LA tagged me today in an online blog chain. She is a nut about chains like this but I love her anyway. And although not strictly about NY or food, I’m happy to participate! Thanks Leah, and here goes:
Hair: Blondeish
Your Mother: Adorable
Your Father: Hero
Favorite Food: Cheese
Dream Last Night: [seriously with the one word?] Bell (I had a dream...

Low Calorie Food and Long Term Costs →
easyfastcheapcooking:
“Just remember this: every time you choose to eat a cheap, unhealthy food, you’re essentially passing on some cost to your future self. This makes the total cost of the food more balanced than you might find on the sticker. Your best bet is to put in some extra footwork and find cheap foods that are also healthy (meaning cheap now and cheap later) and one great way to start...

Regular patrons respond to whispers mere customers cannot hear.
– Sam Sifton on Nello’s baffling appeal. People come to Nello’s for the atmosphere and the air-kissing, and definitely not for the absurdly overpriced, mediocre food. Read the rest of his fair (zero-star) review here.

Sam Sifton tries the KFC “Double Down” and… it sounds as bad as you’d expect it to be. Click the link for more.

Pie Vs. Cake: Pie Is Champion →
shutupfoodies:
More people probably commented on Jezebel’s Pie v. Cake than have filled out their Census, I’m positive.
So disappointing, just like the real March Madness. Cheesecake isn’t even properly named. But happy to see that one of my favorites, Red Velvet Cake, came in a close second. Better luck next year, Red Velv!

Socarrat Coming to Mulberry Street?
Word on the Street says the folks behind beloved paella bar, Socarrat, are opening up another location in Nolita in the former Ghenet space. While my friends and I were devastated to see our favorite Ethiopian restaurant go (or revert back to Brooklyn, more accurately), this is really, really exciting. For me. Because I live around the corner, and I love Paella. A lot. I’m moving soon, so...

Evidently aware of the trend, manufacturers like Nikon, Olympus, Sony and Fuji...
– Terry Sullivan, Consumer Reports. From this great article in Wednesday’s NYT Dining section about the emerging food photography trend. While I try (emphasis on try) to take pictures of food with the intent to illustrate my recipies and reviews, I do know many people who just enjoy snapping...

Review: Pulino's Bar & Pizzeria
Saturday, Char and I made the score of the week. At about 3:30 p.m., we set out to get a late brunch (well, a late lunch technically, but this is New York, so brunch tends to last until dinner) and decided to swing by Pulino’s to see if we could nab a table. It’s been open for a couple weeks now, but between our vacation, busy schedules, and just plain old fear of waiting for a table...
