Like I always say…it pays to be nice in NYC. You must be also be smart, but being pleasant goes a long way. BS on top of BS with a side of perma-papered-up windows will only last so long in this town.

Light Installation in Madison Square Park... →
I work above the park, and I can say first-hand it’s beautiful and well worth checking out. This guy kinda reminds me of Alek-sander (said with a Russian accent) from Sex and the City. Remember - the old artist dude Carrie dated for a few key episodes?

Jimmy at the James Hotel →
..Opening Monday! The bar looks pretty. I’m particularly excited about this because a friend of mine (very hush - just between you and I) is behind the new Burke restaurant that’s also in the hotel. So hopefully the James will become an old standby for my friends and I! Stay tuned and fingers crossed for some exclusive sneak peeks. ;)

Lotus of Siam coming to Cru space →
Interesting. I can’t see Thai in that space. One of my girlfriends used to live in the historic 24 5th Avenue building above it - it’s super gilded and pretty formal. Not that Thai can’t be - and lord knows Cru was stodgy and expensive and kind of a snore. I’m curious to see how this one goes.

Details Emerge on Joe Bastianich's Insidery... →
frostbites: Via Eater: Grub Street gets a peek at the proposal for Joe Bastianich’s fall 2012 memoir, which now has the working title Uncorked: Lessons Learned From a Life of Wine. As might be expected, it includes coming-of-age anecdotes about Queens in the 70s ( “I’d see dozens of funky black prostitutes on the corner, naked. I mean really naked. It was unbelievable”), a history of how he got...

the written word, a treasure: my tumblreatup... →
bytheseabythemountains: First of all, I have to apologize to my amazing tumblreatup buddy, Leslie! I think the package actually arrived yesterday, but I didn’t see it until this evening. We have a little mail alcove in my building’s lobby and my neighbors just got married this past weekend - it seems that half of… So glad you got them, Melissa! Nothing like a lobby full of packages (that...

“‘There’s a real tinge of the smug to this “the world is my safe deposit...”
–  Sloane Crosley, in today’s Opinionator. It’s all true. I left my phone in a cab a few years ago and PAID the cab driver to drive back to my boyfriend’s apartment so I could come grab it. And he did it! And I paid him! Too much money! Only in today’s New York. We all need to...

Headed here for a lovely dinner with the gal pals and guy pals. So excited to see Laurel, who I haven’t seen since she left for NOLA for law school. I can’t decide which is going to determine her alcohol tolerance - the fact that she’s in law school (lightweight) or the fact that she goes to school in New Orleans (double triple trifecta heavyweight world champ). Yay for boozy...
